Koh Kong

After Christmas we went Koh Kong for a needed rest. It is located on the south west coast of Cambodia, on the border of Thailand. The city itself is not too exciting, but the whole area around has much potential for eco-tourism. with some lovely islands, untouched jungle, waterfalls and mangrove swamps. It was rustic still and still an adventure. The highlight was when we went to the Koh Por water fall that was an hour boat ride up the river. It was quite scenic . We also went to the beach and a local zoo. The zoo was interesting. They don’t treat animals the same as we do in the west. The best thing was you could hold a cub tiger for only 75 cents. If you don’t know, Micah’s favorite animals are tigers so this was a highlight for her. Other days stayed at the hotel and swam in the pool ,read or chatted with the other guests.

We stayed at a nice guesthouse called the Oasis Bungalow Resort. It consists of 5 separate bungalows located at the  edge of town , with a view of a jungle and Cardamom mountains. It is quite a change from the hustle and concrete of Phnom Penh.
